Introduction
Elisa Klein is a faculty member in the Department of Human Development and Quantitative Methodology at the University of Maryland. She is the former Director of the University of Maryland’s first child care research and demonstration program, the Center for Young Children. She is a faculty associate in the Center for Early Childhood Education and Intervention at the University of Maryland, where she conducts research and evaluation on the impact of early education programs on children at risk. She was Principal Investigator for the evaluation of the federally funded Preschool Development Grant Expansion program for the state of Maryland. Dr. Klein has conducted and published research on young child’s understanding of school as a social institution, and has also evaluated the effectiveness of curricular assessments based on developmentally appropriate practices in public school and Head Start settings.
